PhD on correlated many-body systems at King’s College London

Applications are open for a PhD studentship in Condensed Matter Theory with the focus on correlated many-body systems in the group of Evgeny Kozik at King’s College London.

We are looking for candidates with background in field-theoretical techniques, such as Green’s function methods and Feynman diagrams, interest in algorithm development, Monte Carlo methods and artificial intelligence, as well as solid computer programming skills. Possible directions for the PhD project include development of novel methods for accurate description of many-electron systems based on the diagrammatic Monte Carlo approach and application of state-of-the-art techniques to longstanding problems of high-temperature and unconventional superconductivity, quantum magnetism, and other prominent phenomena of strong electron correlations.

The successful candidate will join the Theory and Simulation of Condensed Matter Group at King’s with a broad range of interests in many-body theory in and out of equilibrium, quantum field theory and ab initio approaches, transport, dynamical mean-field theory, quantum chemistry and GW methods.

The Kozik group is part of the international Simons Collaboration on the Many-Electron Problem [www.simonsfoundation.org] which offers unique personal development opportunities through schools and international scientific events.

Full funding is available for UK / EU candidates. Applicants from other countries can apply, but would need to cover international student fees from other sources.

Start date: Autumn 2020.
