Call for 2024 QT-Future International PhD Program in Quantum Physics at Ljubljana University

Envoyé par Mikhail Feigelman
To ensure the fast professional development after PhD either in academic sector or in high-tech companies related to Quantum Technologies (QT), a new International PhD program was recently started in Ljubljana, with a major support from Google Quantum AI. The program is hosted by Ljubljana University, the Center of excellence in nanoscience and nanotechnology – Nanocenter, and Josef Stefan Institute, and supports partnership with France, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, and Israel.

4-year QT-Future PhD program provides the early start of research training in the most advanced laboratories in the field in various countries. The students can combine education in Ljubljana with a long-term stay in the Partner lab of their choice.

Research topics belong to modern quantum physics: quantum many-body physics and its connections with quantum information theory; physics of quantum computing in specific devices (superconducting qubits, photonics, cold atoms and ions); quantum analogue simulators; physics of quantum nanostructures, new quantum materials (topological superconductors and insulators, Weyl materials, electronic crystals, etc), nano-electronics (single-electron and single-photon detectors, nano-SQUIDS, etc), fast superconducting devices.

Theoretical part of the Program will follow the approaches developed by the Landau School in condensed matter physics, combining deep studies of analytical approaches in theoretical physics, with a regular interaction with experimentalists and use of modern computational methods. Experimental part is mostly related to low temperature physics, with a possibility to utilize Nanocenter facilities for advanced technologies of nanostructures under study, as well as for precise microscopic characterization.

The program is financially supported by the Public Scolarship, Development, Disability and Maintenance Fund of the Republic of Slovenia (Ad Futura).

Deadline for application : March 15, 2024 (earlier applications are encouraged)

The key element of the enrollment procedure is the online interview that includes solving of some problems in Physics.
